Breeds intro-Chapter 1

I decided to start breeds introduction chapter by chapter but we won't deal here with common breeds like Border collies,Pit bulls,Westy's and breeds most of us know all about,instead we will dig deeper into breeds that you don't pass on streets each day and even breeds that some people never heard of before,so from now on i will write one chapter each week about some of this not so common dogs.
So let's get it on with:

White Swiss Shepherd Dog ( Berger Blanc Suisse)

 Perfect family dog,with great working predispositions,friendly towards children,carefull guard and quick learner.This breed originally comes from German shepherd's.

About history:Only writing about breed before 1900. comes from province Alsace-Lorraine.On king's court of Habsburg dynasty pure white shepherd's have been breeded.Stories say that that court's ladys where smitten by looks and colour of these athletic but sliky dogs.In those times Habsburg's were one of most influental family's in Europe so they dogs became popular.We will skip some parts of breeds history as it is very unclear where are its true origins and move to 20th century.In the year 1906. first dog came to USA,it was Mira von Offingen,but she didn't meet the expectations and she couldn't compete with Queen von Switzerland on New York dog show 1908. she was sent back to Germany,without registration to American breed book.Two womans are very important in breeds history but as it would take too long to describe their influence in breeds development we will just mention thier names:Ann Tracy and Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge.On year 1919. first German shepherd is registred in Canadian breed book and since till 1959. dog colours weren't written we do not have information about any white dogs.Even tough on 1922. H.B.Boyd starts Canadian Association of German shepherds we do not have real info about white dogs till second decade of WWII.On year 1959. German association for German shepherds decides that white dogs are albinos and they that they are excluded from German shepherds breeding.Breed standard was changed and soon American organization also took same standing about breed and soon white dogs were blamed as carriers of defness,blindness and bad temperament.This change of standard resulted that all breeders euthanised white pups as soon as they were borned wich resulted that soon all white dogs were vanished from Europe.In year 1964. starts club for White shepherds wich had breed protection as its goal,soon it changed name to "White German Shepherd Club" and then again in 1976. to "American Shepherd Club International" and the again to "White German Shepherd Dog Club International" (WGSDCI) 1977.Also in Canada was started White Shepherd Club in 1970. and so started battle for preserving the breed.In 70's and 80's and White Shepherd's came to Europe,woman named Agatha Burch came back to Switzerland from USA and with her brought white male named "Lobo" and with him breeded her's white female brought from England.It was first registred litter.Lobo that came to world in 1966. is considered starter of the breed in Europe and Switzerland.In last 20 years White Shepherds spread across Europe wich resulted in bringing the breed under FCI under name "White Swiss Shepherd Dog" (FCI standard 347).
About breed in general:As any breed this also has its virtues and flaws.They are very tolerant and aren't dominant by nature.They are very attached to their owner,more then other dogs wich can result in them not eating when you are not around,SO DO NOT GET THIS DOG IF YOU CAN'T FULLY DEDICATE TO HIM.If you don't give them enough time,they will close into themselves and that will cause troubles that are hard to adjust later.They are not trustworthy towards strangers,not everyone is their friend but they never show fear or agression.Around the world they are used to help blind people,in police to discover drogs and bombs,for agility competitions becuase they simply enjoy working and learning.This breed is not small,but their loyalty,love towards children and beauty of their character melts even biggest fear of dogs,there is simply no Swiss Shepherd that won't get under your skin.With all these great characteristics there are of course some flaws.Breed is prone to some genetic diseases so every dog that is meant for future breeding should undergo few tests before breeding like:-MDR 1 gene test (test for over Hypersensitivity to some remedies)
                      -DM test (Degenrative Myelopathy)
                      -CMR 1 test (Canine Multifocal Retinopathy type 1)
                      -MH (Malignant Hypertermia)
                      -Megaoesophagus
                      -Audiometria
                      -BAER test

How to choose your perfect dog?

When you reach point in your life when you feel ready to get a dog and give him everything he needs first question is always of course wich breed should i get?We all have our personal favourites among our canine friends,the breeds that we prefer and we kinda can connect our personality with that specific breed.Well first thing that you should know is that every dog is an image of his owner so each dog that you get as puppy will turn into animal image of you to put it simply.It will be your responsability to make him calm and obidient.So when you finally choose breed you like and has that "something" that lures you to it you will of course look for local breeder of that breed,while doing this you should have few things in mind:1.ALWAYS make sure that you are buying legal dogs that have all the papers that are not fake.
2.Also make sure that dogs are cleared of parasites,have microchip and got shots against puppy diseases.
3.Try to look for best breeder possible,becuase that way you will be sure that you get excellent dogs from good parents.
Once you find breeder with litter for sale and you go there to choose your future best bud,you should keep on your mind that if you are person who doesn't have much energy and is usually calm you should look to get yourself a puppy that is always "in the background" and just looking at you smartly becuase if you get the one that raned first to you wagling his tail and jumping all over the place you will have trouble dealing with dog that has that kind of energy,it works the same way if you are hyperactive person with a lot of activity,you will then look for a puppy that is hyperactive of course becuase if you get a low energy dog you will never be satisfied because you couldn't bring him on your bike routine or such because he is tired from walk you just had :).Remember one final thing,when choosing your breed don't be misleaded by stereotips about certain breeds simply get the one you like the most becuase dogs are what we are and if you teach him good he will turn into best friend you can possibly find and will pay you triple

Fullfilment of dying wish

This video made me think...made me think so hard about what dogs ever did to us to finish like this.When i watched this i cried like i almost never had,i felt such a compassion,such sadness for this dog,but on other side i was happy that there are people like this still on earth.Ok,he was born on the street,he spent his whole misreable life on street but he didn't diserve nor choose that,so i am wandering what it takes to make human heart melt and help fellow creature in dire need,i am so seriously stressed since i watched this that i have trouble concentraiting and i don't think i will sleep easily tonight (some people think i care too much about dogs,but that's just how i feel about them) so at this time i don't know how to put into words all that is on my mind at the moment,i am just hoping that no dog ever has to live trough what Ol'boy did and i will just leave you to watch video and take good thinking on what you saw.Thank God i am starting to volunteer soon at local dog shelter so i will be able to give 110% of myself to help every dog in similiar situtation.

What one dog really needs?

In this post i will try to explain to people that think that all dog needs is food and water and LOTS of love that they are quite wrong.Of course that when you get a dog the first thing you will want from him is to be your cudly pet and friend (at least i hope thats the reason you are getting dog),but that doesn't mean that dog will be happy is gets a meal,water and love every day,i won't go into how you should feed your dog and that you need to make fresh water avaiable for him 24/7 becuase i supose every dog owner knows that,instead i will try to explain that beside that dogs also need proper exercise,both physical and mental to be truly happy and fullfilled.So to make it absolutely clear dogs MUST take at least an hour of walking/runing every day,wheter on foot,bike,rollerblades or whatever you fancy,if you have busy schedule you shouldn't consider getting a dog in first place even tough in these days there are a lot of people that walk dogs as their jobs.In walking dogs find opportunity to sniff around (activity that brings them joy as much as our favourite things do to us),explore,interact with enviroment and generally get in touch with nature around them.Some of you will say that you can't walk around your dog becuase he pulls,attacks other dogs or what not but that's subject for some other post.Trough walking dogs also get released from all built up energy during day,especially during hot summers (depends where you live) when they sleep trough 70% of the day and when they are released from all that built up energy they will be much calmer and satisfied and you will enjoy their company more,on other hand dogs that do not get proper exersice often become dominant and tense (from all that energy) wich leads to have quite unhappy dog that can burst at any moment (aggresion).Second thing is mind exercise,this can be done with simple playing with your dog that will make you happy and unstressful,your dog happy and fullfilled and he will also learn few tricks.
You can do mind exercises with simple ball throwing and making your dog return it or by learning your dog to give high five,roll over,play dead or any other trick in the book,of course there are just simple tricks but later you can advance to stuff like turning lights off or on,opening or closing doors (depends on breed) and even do some agility trainings,basiclly everything where you are trying to teach you dog something,wheter its simple house rules,play,tricks or advanced stuff like agility is mind exercise for you dog.At the end of this post i hope you understood what exercise means to your dog and that if you give to him you will get best from him that he can give you and let's make it clear that EVERY DOG need exercise,wheter it is chihuahua or greyhound,English bulldog or German shepherd,it is simply part of what they are.

Few days ago I went to visit my grandfather at the nursing home.As I was closing the gate of the yard
I saw a Miniature Pinscher runing towards me,i was surprised becuase i never saw him there before,after short introduction (no eye,no touch,no talk philosophy of course,wich will also be topic in one of the posts) i realized that it is very cheerful and young dog.When i entered building nursing home owner called the dog and i found out it was her's.I went to my grandfathers room and soon dog came after me,as it was visiting hours many other people came to their relatives but there were also some people that were alone and then came the moment where i realized how much joy that dog was bringing to those people that had noone,altough some of them were very sick and old that small pocket sized dog still managed to bring smiles on their faces with his runing and cheerful tail wagling.So i asked a question to myself:"Why all people can't see the best in dogs?"Why we can't simply admit that dogs are really our best companions wheter we are 10 or 75,wheter we can't walk or we are professional marathon runners,wheter we are deaf,blind or something third dogs will always be there to cheer us up,it's on us to appreciate it and repay them the best way we can.

Are dogs luxury?

It happened again today,i was walking with my dogs and stumbled across on one of my neighbours and after short random chit-chat the usual questions that i get started..."Why do i have two dogs?!","Aren't they expensive to feed?","Do i plan to keep both of them?" and such.I am used to these kind of questions,becuase most of time they enter on left ear and exit trough right lol.But what thicks me off are stupid comments that go behind my back,one time i found out that my fiancee's friend asked her:"Why do i treat them and refer to them as they are humans?" (i don't say this is always good thing,but that will be other topic) because all she sees in them are just four legged things that drool (yes,things,many people see dogs as things here),another one said that to keep a dog is "Luxury",i mean first of all...dogs,wheter you have them simply as your best friends and companions or you breed them professionaly to be champs are everything but not expansive unlike some other intrests/hobies people have...and second I for one can say that noone,not my parents,not my fiancee,nor my best friends gave me so much unquestionable and pure love...and we do say that you can't put a price on a love,am i right?

Let's get started

In my first post i choosed to just describe what made me to do this blog.I live in small country that is pretty predujiced towards animals,among people here there is strong belife that dog's are smelly,dirty and ugly animals that as main purpose have to guard and take care of cattle,wich is of course normal becuase that is in nature of most dogs but that still doesn't mean that dogs need to be treated like they aren't live beings.70% of dogs here live in terrible conditions,they are kept on chains 24/7,instead of proper balanced food they eat all kind of garbage,from human leftovers to just bread and water,some dogs aren't on chains but they are in small 2x2m cages and we all know that is not enough for dog to even stretch yet alone do some running or exercise wich every dog needs on daily routine.Not all dogs here are treated like that and not all people think of dogs as lesser beings but still the other group is in huge majority.So my point on this blog will be (becuase i know it's not only my country that has problems like this) to bring dogs closer to people who don't know much about them,to teach people about dogs anatomy,dog breeds,proper breeding,what's best for their health,how our actions affect our dogs and much more...in general to bring beautiful relationship between human and dog closer to people who look at dogs from wrong perspective.


P.S.I will do some more rearrangement to blog when i catch time,it's pretty late here,just wanted to write my first post.
